Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the August 25th Powell River Regional District Board meeting. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.
Green Shores Incentives Study – Federation of Canadian Municipalities Grant
The Board agreed to apply to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for a grant under the Community Initiatives: Climate Adaptation Studies Fund to complete a Green Shores Incentives Study together with the Stewardship Centre for British Columbia.
Van Anda Ball Field Tenure Renewal
The Board directed staff to proceed with finalizing the Notice of Final Review related to the Van Anda Ball Field tenure renewal.
Correspondence received July 25, 2017 from Sheila Malcolmson, Member of Parliament Nanaimo-Ladysmith re Federal Action on Abandoned Vessels
The Board agreed to send a letter of support urging the federal government to adopt MP Sheila Malcomson’s legislation, C-352.
Financial Assistance Request – Friends of Powell River
The Board approved financial assistance in the amount of $2,000 to the Friends of Powell River to contribute towards the cost of annual swim passes for some of Powell River’s vulnerable children living in the rural areas.
Texada Island Recreation Commission Appointment
The Board appointed Ron Smith to the Texada Island Recreation Committee for a term ending December 31, 2017. At that time, he will be eligible for reappointment.
