Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the October 26th Powell River Regional District Board meeting. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.
Designation of the Rossander Property Donation as a Regional Park
The Board designated as a regional park, the 7.10 hectare donated property legally described as Lot 2, District Lot 4411, Group 1, New Westminster District, Plan EPP60209 and named this regional park Rossander Regional Park. A meeting will be held with the neighbouring property owners to explain the terms of the donation and to seek input from neighbours on the present state of the property as they know it. Consideration will be given to possibly converting the property into a Community Park.
Savary Island Fire Insurance Grade Update Report
The Board received the Fire Underwriters Survey Fire Insurance Grade Update Report for the Savary Island Fire Protection Area. The Fire Underwriters Survey updated the Canadian Fire Insurance Grading Index to show the Dwelling Protection Grade for Savary Island has now improved to grade level 4 (Limited Protection) from the previous grade level 5 (Unprotected).
Regional District Name Change
The Board agreed to forward the information obtained through the public engagement process to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and to request that the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Selina Robinson, recommend to the Lieutenant Governor in Council that the name of the Powell River Regional District be changed to “qathet Regional District” through the issue of Supplementary Letters Patent.
Community Resource Centre Letter of Support
The Board endorsed sending a letter to the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction in support of the Community Resource Centre receiving ongoing core funding from the Province.
Financial Assistance – PR Wellness Project
The Board approved a grant in aid in the amount of $502 to the PR Wellness Project to support the PR Wellness Challenge – Fall 2017.
Financial Assistance – Lasqueti Community Association
The Board approved a grant in aid in the amount of $1,500 to the Lasqueti Community Association to support the Winter Wednesday Social scheduled to start on November 1, 2017.
Appointment of Weed Control Officer – Specified Noxious Weeds Bylaw
The Board appointed the Manager of Operational Services as the Weed Control Officer for the Regional District jurisdiction.
