Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the January 25th Powell River Regional District Board meeting. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.

Financial Assistance
The Board approved the following financial assistance:

  • $15,000 to Tourism Powell River to fund student positions for 2018.
  • $750 to the Powell River and District Christmas Cheer Committee.
  • $15,000 to the Powell River Academy of Music.

Truck Loggers Association Membership
The Board voted to become associate members in the Truck Loggers Association. As associate members the Regional District will be able to work collaboratively with community members and the Truck Loggers Association to advocate industry initiatives to upper levels of government.

Area D Official Community Plan – Planning Advisory Select Committee
The Board appointed Denise Smith to the Area D Official Community Plan – Planning Advisory Select Committee.

Social Planning Program
The Board voted to become a partner in a tripartite local government structure along with the Tla’amin Nation and City of Powell River whose governance interests will be dedicated to social planning at the local level.

Social Action & Planning Advisory Committee
The Board accepted the opportunity to be a founding member of a Social Action & Planning Advisory Committee, a select committee comprised of the Vancouver Coastal Health Medical Health Officer and one representative each from the Powell River Regional District, Tla’amin Nation, City of Powell River and School District 47.

Heritage / Museum Service
The Board directed staff to bring forward a report regarding the creation of an establishment bylaw for a sub-regional Heritage / Museum Service.

Savary Island Dock Advisory Committee
The Board re-appointed Peter Chettleburgh and Rick Shanaman to the Savary Island Dock Advisory Committee for two-year terms ending December 31, 2019.
