Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the February 22nd Powell River Regional District Board meeting. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.
Financial Assistance – Powell River Historical Museum & Archives Association
The Board approved the financial assistance totaling $ 41,849 to be paid from the following services:
- $24,365 from Electoral Area A Grant-in-Aid Service
- $6,808 from Electoral Area B Grant-in-Aid Service
- $10,676 from Electoral Area C Grant-in-Aid Service
Pink Shirt Day
The Board voted to support a collaborative project initiated by Tla’amin Nation to sponsor Pink Shirts printed with logos from the Regional District, Tla’amin Nation, City of Powell River and School District 47.
2018 Strategic Plan
The Board adopted the Strategic Plan Review Report. The Strategic Plan incorporates the Four Pillars of Sustainability and will be used as a tool for guidance and direction in 2018.
Haywire Bay Regional Park Bridge 2018
The Board voted to amend the 2017 Regional Parks Financial Plan to repair the Haywire Bay Regional Park access Bridge.
Community Emergency Preparedness
The Board endorsed an application to the Union of BC Municipalities for the Emergency Operations Centres & Training funding stream for up to $25,000 to provide back-up power for the Powell River Regional District’s Maintenance Facility. This will allow the Maintenance Facility to be used as an Emergency Operations Centre.
Financial Assistance – Powell River Trail Riders Club
The Board approved the financial assistance totaling $1,767.50 to the Powell River Trail Riders Club from the General Grant-in- Aid service.
Financial Assistance – Powell River Employment Program
The Board approved financial assistance in the amount of $50,000 to the Powell River Employment Program Society.
Regional Parks Acquisition Fund & Community Parks Local Service
The Board directed staff to bring back a report to explore how to modernize Community Parks Local Service Establishment Bylaw No. 295, 1997 and to include in the report consideration on how to establish a Regional Parks Acquisition Fund.
Regional Board Meeting – March Schedule Change
The Board changed the March Board meeting and Hospital Board meeting to March 29, 2018.
Powell River Public Library Board
The Board re-appointed Wendy Cocksedge and Selina Smith to Powell River Public Library Board of Trustees, for terms ending December 31, 2019
