Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the May 10th & 24 th Powell River Regional District Board and the Regional Hospital District Board meetings. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.

2017 Audited Financial Statements presented by BDO Vancouver
The Regional Hospital District Board and the Regional Board approved the 2017 Audited Financial Statements.

BC Marine Trails Network Association
The Board authorized a letter of support for the project.

Meeting with Minister Sims – FOIPPA Survey and Fiber Optic Cable
The Board directed staff to complete the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) survey, with input/comments from the Board, and submit to the Ministry of Citizens’ Services.

Staff were also directed to make contact with Howard Randell, Executive Director Network BC, to obtain more details on the ‘Strathcona Cable’ and internet connectivity.

Agreement Regarding Airspace Clearances
The Board directed staff to enter into a three year agreement with Selkirk Mountain Forest Ltd. for tree management services to maintain airspace clearances on the forest adjacent to the Texada Airport.

K-Lumet Fire Starter in Regional Campgrounds
The Board authorized the sale of K-Lumet in Regional District Campgrounds. K-Lumet is a fire starter product manufactured in the Regional District by people with barriers to employment.

 Savary Island Marine Advisory Committee
The Board directed staff to include the Savary Island Barge Site into the Savary Island Dock Advisory Committee’s (SIDAC) terms of reference and to change the name to Savary Island Marine Advisory Committee (SIMAC).

Green Cone Food Digesters
The Board approved purchasing 100 Green Cone Food Digesters for resale. The cost to purchase will be $130 plus taxes.

Mobile Food Vendor Services in Regional District Parks
The Board approved amending Regional Parks Regulation Bylaw No. 325 to include an  application for a Special Use Agreement that will allow for Mobile Food Vendor Services.

Financial Assistance – Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA)
The Board provided a contribution of $10,240 to PRISMA from the Economic Development service and $9,760 from Electoral Area A, B and D Grant-in-Aid service.

Financial Assistance – Powell River District United Way – Orca Bus
The Board provided a contribution of $500 to the Powell River District United Way for the ORCA Bus to install a VHF Radio to be funded from Electoral Area A, B and D Grant-in-Aid service.

Financial Assistance – Powell River Hospice Society
The Board provided a contribution of $2,412 to the Powell River Hospice Society to support its 2018 operations to be funded from Electoral Area A, B and D Grant-in-Aid service

Powell River Community Funding Action
The Hospital District Board authorized a letter of support for the Powell River Community Funding Action Team’s current application to the overdose emergency response center program.
