Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the June 28th Powell River Regional District Board and the Regional Hospital District Board meetings. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.

 Regional Recreation
The Board approved a referendum question to go forward to the 2018 General Elections to ask the citizens of Electoral Area A, B & C if they would like to provide financial assistance to the City of Powell River for providing regional recreational services.

Drainage Study Electoral Area A, B & C
The Board received the final Drainage Study Electoral Area A, B & C report and directed staff to begin implementing the Regional District recommendations within the study.

Outdoor Learning Centre Bike Rack at Haywire Bay Regional Park
The Board approved the plans of the School District 47, Outdoor Learning Centre, to construct a bike rack shed at the centre.

Provincial Evacuation Referral System
The Board received the Provincial Evacuation Referral System report.

Savary Island Rogers Hall – Land Division & Property Management
The Board assigned the management of the 0.298 acre portion of the Savary Island Rogers Hall designated for parking purposes to the Savary Marine service.

Lasqueti Island Solid Waste System
The Board directed staff to engage the Lasqueti Island Community with regard to the proposed Free Store and Recycling Depot upgrades guided by the Lasqueti Island Solid Waste Management Sub Plan. The Board received a follow-up report on the engagement session and the next steps required for the upgrade.

Recycle BC Community Champions Program
The Board received the Recycle BC Community Champions Program report which spoke to the continued success Let’s Talk Trash, the Regional District Waste Education Team.

Appointment of Deputy Chief Election Officer – Electoral Area E
The Board appointed Sheila Ray as the Deputy Chief Election Officer for Electoral Area E (Lasqueti Island) for the 2018 Local Government Elections for the Powell River Regional District.

2017 Statement of Financial Information
The Board approved the 2017 Statement of Financial Information as presented.

2017 Report of Directors Remuneration, Expenses and Contracts
The Board approved the 2017 Report of Directors Remuneration, Expenses and Contracts.

Shelter Point & Haywire Park Campground Report
The Board received the Shelter Point Park & Haywire Bay Park Campground Report.

Bylaw Referral – Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee
The Board will advise the Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee that the Powell River Regional District supports proposed Bylaw No. 95 to amend Lasqueti Island Land Use Bylaw No. 78, 2005 and that the Board requests future amendments to Lasqueti Island Land Use Bylaw No. 78, 2005 be initiated to recognize and permit community service and facility uses (fire halls, recycling centers) on lands zoned Land Based (LB).

Transit Fares on the Texada Island Bus
The Board directed staff to work with BC Transit to eliminate fare subsidies for the Texada Bus- Route 13 and supported a policy by BC Transit to charge the transit-only portion of the Texada Bus fare for riders who are fee exempt on BC Ferries.

The Regional District will also provide fare reimbursements, on a per-request basis, of up to $7.50 per return trip to senior riders on the Route 13 Texada Bus, between April 5 and June 7, 2018.
