Following is a summary of some of the items that were considered at the August 23rd Powell River Regional District Board and the Regional Hospital District Board meetings. This summary is being provided as part of our commitment to transparency. It is our belief that an informed and engaged community results in decisions that serve the common good.


 Electoral Area D Official Community Plan Project

The Board received the Community Engagement Report for the new Electoral Area D Official Community Plan and directed staff to advance to Phase 3 of the planning process.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection Program

The Regional District joined the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection program.

 Connected Coast

The Board moved to promote the Connected Coast Project to local Internet Service Providers and encourage them to explore means and ways of expanding their services to the unserved areas of qathet Regional District via access to the sub-sea fibre optic infrastructure.

Savary Island Wharf Approach

The Board is going to advise the Association of Savary Island Committee (ASIC) that the most feasible and cost effective course of action with regard to the wharf approach and moorings inhibiting night time medical evacuation operations be communicated to the 800 plus ASIC membership from ASIC in its monthly communications.

Powell River Outdoor Recreation Users Group
The qathet Regional District will enter into Service Provider Agreements with these groups Bloody Old Men’s Brigade, Powell River Cycling Association, Knuckleheads Winter Recreation, and Powell River ATV Club for the development and management of the network of trails and recreational amenities on land and water which are identified in the 2016 Powell River Regional District Regional Trails Plan.

Social Planning Services

The Board directed staff to bring back a report regarding a sub-regional social planning service establishment bylaw (Electoral Areas A, B, C, D & E) to a future meeting this fall.

Lund Sewer Outfall

The Board approved a budget amendment to increase the 2018 capital budget for the Lund Sewer Service to allow for $105,000 of additional capital costs to renew and upgrade the Lund Sewer Outfall.

 2018 UBCM Convention

The Board authorized the attendance of interested Electoral Area Directors, Alternate Director Rebane, and the Chief Administrative Officer to the Union of BC Municipalities 2018 Convention held in Whistler during the week of September 10 – 14, and that all eligible expenses be paid.

Bus Service for the Fall Fair

The Board authorized the requested bus service for the Fall Fair be provided using $500.00 from the Electoral Area B Grant-in-Aid fund.
