The Regional District Parks & Greenspace Plan was developed in 2010 by consulting firm HB Lanarc, assisted by an advisory committee appointed by the regional board. This committee included members of the general public, local recreation interest groups, other local governments and the school district. Public recommendations for park sites and recreation areas, as well as information about significant ecological values, were collected through public meetings held in each part of the region, a survey mailed to all households, and stakeholder meetings attended by representatives of local industry and other levels of government.

Plan Implementation

The regional board will now develop a strategy to implement this plan. This strategy will select from among all the recommendations, those areas that are most important to the overall vision and that are achievable, given financial and other constraints, and will determine a schedule for executing them. To assist it in developing this implementation strategy, the regional board has plans to appoint an advisory committee in the spring of 2012.
