Please note: the deadline to request a mail ballot package is 4:00 pm, October 17, 2018.

Mail Ballot Voting is available for qualified electors in qathet Regional District Electoral Areas A, B, C, D, and E who meet one or more of the following criteria:

a) have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects your ability to vote at another voting opportunity;

b) expect to be absent from the regional district on general voting day and at the times of all advance voting opportunities; or

c) regularly reside in any electoral area where your only access from their residence to a voting place is by boat or aircraft.

Electors who qualify can register to vote and cast a ballot by mail, rather than attending in-person at a polling station.

In addition to the above requirements, persons must be eligible to vote as an elector or non-resident property elector, in the same manner as a regular voter. Please see Who Can Vote  for more information.

How to Apply for Mail Ballot Voting

Complete the mail ballot application form, and submit it to the qathet Regional District Administration office as early as possible in advance of general voting day, October 20, 2018.

Please note: The deadline to request a mail ballot package is 4:00 pm, October 17. For for applications received after Thursday, September 27, time will not permit issuing the ballot package via mail, and the voter must arrange to pick up a package from the qRD.

Mail Ballot Voting Process

Once your application to vote by mail ballot is approved by the Chief Elections Officer the mail ballot package with instructions will be mailed to you, or you can arrange to pick it up at the qRD Administration office.

Please note: The deadline to request a mail ballot package is 4:00 pm, October 17. For applications received after Thursday, September 27, time will not permit issuing the ballot package via mail, and the voter must arrange to pick up a package from the qRD. Voters are responsible for returning the completed package to the qathet Regional District. To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018. It is your responsibility to deliver or post the mail ballot in sufficient time for delivery to the qathet Regional District, at 202-4675 Marine Avenue, Powell River, BC. V8A 2L2.

To be counted, your completed mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00  pm on general voting day, October 20, 2018 at the qathet Regional District #202 – 4675 Marine Avenue, Powell River, BC V8A 2L2. Please note that it is the obligation of the person applying to vote by mail ballot to ensure that the mail ballot is received by the Chief Election Officer within this time limit.

After the close of voting on general voting day, mail ballots will be removed from their secrecy envelopes with no identifying marks and the ballots shall be counted in the same manner as regular ballots.
