Regional district services are provided by a staff team that includes management personnel, unionized employees and facility caretakers working under contract. From time to time the regional district also advertises for consultants or contractors to submit tenders or proposals for special projects. Employment opportunities and tenders are advertised in local papers and posted on our website.

The unionized employees of the Powell River Regional District are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 798).

2017 Student Summer Positions

The Powell River Regional District is accepting applications from university/college students for three (3) summer positions.

Shelter Point Regional Park: to start May 18
Haywire Bay Regional Park: to start May 18
Powell River Cemetery: to start May 15
All positions end around Labour Day 2017.

Wage rate is $ 15.54 per hour (post-secondary). Positions covered by a union contract under CUPE Local 798. Work schedule: 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, 2 consecutive days off. Park employees must work weekends and holidays.

Applicants must be physically strong, familiar with basic maintenance tools and equipment, capable of physical work in an outdoor setting and be good with the public. FireSmart Coordinator – Contract Position

The Powell River Regional District is accepting applications from persons interested in the role of FireSmart Coordinator. This is a short-term contract position. The FireSmart Coordinator will lead public outreach on wildfire education throughout the Regional District [including within Tla’amin Nation and City of Powell River] and will encourage individuals and neighbourhood groups to take the lead in implementing solutions for wildfire risk reduction on their own properties.

Preference will be given to candidates with a background in wildfire mitigation planning or fire response. The ability to coordinate volunteers and to organize public events will be essential. Candidates must be available to attend a regional FireSmart neighbourhood workshop in June, 2017. The FireSmart Coordinator will also be required to produce a report for the Powell River Regional District outlining a plan for the three local governments to attain FireSmart Community Recognition Status.

Savary Island Wharf:  Bike Racks & Shed Upgrade Invitation to Tender

The Powell River Regional District invites tenders from qualified contractors to perform works associated with its “active transportation” accommodations at its Savary Island Marine Service Wharf, Savary Island, British Columbia, including site preparation; bike racks, walkway, map structure and stairway; and upgrade of the existing wharf shed.
