All regional district electoral area directors are elected for a four-year term. Municipal directors are appointed to the regional board by city council.
Any Canadian citizen who is eligible to vote in the province of BC is qualified to run for election as a board director. Candidates do not need to own property in the area; however, they must have resided in BC for six consecutive months and they must be nominated by an elector of the jurisdiction for which they are seeking office.
