Shelter Point Regional Park is a popular beach-front day-use park and campground located on Texada Island. The park is broken down into the main campground and the Bella Maria campground. The Powell River Regional District proudly operates this family-friendly park. Onsite caretakers Joe and Debbie Weber are available to assist with visitor’s needs. The park is open for camping year-round, though many of the facilities are only available during the summer camping season. Showers and flush toilets will be open on April 7th for the 2017 camping season.

Shelter Point Park is located on the west shores of Texada Island, just south of the residential community of Gillies Bay. Location Map
To get to Shelter Point Park, you must take a 35 minute ferry ride from Westview in Powell River to Blubber Bay on Texada Island. BC Ferry Schedule You will exit the ferry onto Blubber Bay Road, follow Blubber Bay Road until you get to the south side of the community of Van Anda and take a right turn onto Gillies Bay Road. Follow Gillies Bay Road all the way to the park. There are signs from the ferry directing you to the park. The drive takes about 20 minutes in good weather.
Reservations, Check-in Policies, Access Restrictions
We do not take reservations for single campsites. Our policy is first-come, first-served. Simply select a campsite and set up. Office hours for campsite registration and firewood sales are from 8 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm.
You can reserve our 2 group sites. To book a group campsite contact our park caretakers at 604 486-7228.
Check-in and Check-out Time: 12:00 pm.
Locked Gate: For safety reasons, the park gate is locked in the evening and opened again early in the morning, thus restricting all vehicular traffic in and out of the park. In case of emergency, the caretaker is available to open the gate.
$23 per unit per night ($21 for seniors) – April 7 – October 27
$16 per unit per night ($14 for seniors) – October 28 – April 6
Main Campground $185 per site per night for groups of up to 10 camper units; $15 per night for each additional camper unit
Campground $130 per site per night for groups of up to 7 camper units; $15 per night for each additional camper unit
Firewood: $6/level wagon load

Hiking and Walking
From the Bella Maria campground, you can enjoy an easy stroll along our nature trails featuring unique old growth forest.
- Fishing – requires a valid license.
- Shellfish Gathering – requires a valid license. You are encourage to return the shells to the beach.
- Boating – boats, canoes and kayaks can be launched from the park.
Controlled, well-behaved pets are welcome. Please do not leave your pet unattended. They must be kept on a leash and are not allowed in the concession area.
Osprey, eagles, ducks, ravens, crows, raccoons, squirrels and deer can all be sighted in the park. The lack of any major predators (bears or cougars) on the island means you can enjoy your camping experience without worry.
